Esther talkin' over dinner

June 7,2009 Esther' entry

We've had interesting dinner discussions over Pisco Sours, kinda like a Chilean version of a Whiskey Sour. I asked Darrell, at Rick's urging, about the slow food movement. Darrell had a few things to say, but the one thing that stood out was his admission that on occasion he likes going to a drive thru (In and Out, preferred) and eating in his car while he drives. It accomplished two things: he cures his hunger while he gets to where he's going. Nothing wrong with that, he figures.

I remember asking for a "to go" cup in a small cafe in Switzerland. The waitress literally laughed out loud. "Das gibt nichts!) (We don't do that!) she exclaimed. Hey, I like drinking coffee in the car while I'm driving. I find it pleasurable and relaxing.

Our fellow Oodleboxer and traveling companion, Stephanie added that although the slow food movement embraces growing your food, cooking from scratch and generally slowing down, we have to do what works for us. The American tradition of eating and drinking in our cars can be a simple and practical pleasure.

Speaking of simple pleasures...another Pisco Sour please!
